Your Sound Card might be incorporated in your System Board so call Dell to find out. You can download the Service Manual from Dell for your Laptop I've tried to be as specific as possible and give as much information as I can, but if I've missed something please tell me and I'll find out. A laptop without sound is basically useless to me.

I've also put the XP disc in and installed it twice now. I've done this several times and it keeps just telling me the same thing over and over again. "ExitError:Error=Device Object not present, restart the system and run setup again"

When I go to Dell's driver support page and try to install the audio driver (SIGMATEL-Driver R171789.exe) I'm told It's a Dell Latitude D620, and only yesterday was I able to listen to music and watch videos on it, now I have no sound. If one is expected, you should install a sound driver provided by the hardware manufacturer" When I run dxdiag I get this message in the "Sound" tab. I also tried doing the Microsoft Hotfix, but everytime I do it says something like "The update you're trying to add is older than your service pack" or something, but the thing is I NEED to install that update because I have no sound driver, and it seems It's trying to install the IDT High Definition Audio Codec, but failing every time. I bought this laptop a few years ago, and since then, upgraded from XP (originally installed OS), to Vista, then Windows 7, and now because of a problem I was having with Dell drivers I've just put it back to XP so I can find drivers I need.Īfter I installed XP, I noticed I had no volume option in the bottom right hand corner, and whenever I get an alert it does that old school BIOS beep which I have no control over it's volume.Įverytime I turn the laptop on I get a "Found New Hardware" Wizard, and when I tell it to install the hardware it ends saying "An error occurred during the installation of the device.
